Here's a basic question from a non-technical mind. I would like to use a Garnet reverb with my (original) Lightning 15. Is impedance an issue (ie. does the reverb unit add a load to the amp), or can I simply go amp-reverb-speaker without concern?

No. It's more complicated than that. A poorly designed reverb circuit is a tone sucking monster.

I suppose that will be obvious to my ears. I am more concerned about harming the amp. Any risk of this?

I've never seen a stand alone reverb "unit" per se that goes between an amp and the speaker. These typically go between the guitar and the input of the amp like most effects pedals. A reverb tank is a small transducer coupled to a microphone of sorts through a spring (and there are usually 2 or more springs per tank). This is a low level situation, not speaker level  This would not be good for the reverb tank or for the output of the amp...

I have seem low impedance reverb tanks used in fold back reverb situations and have used them. They are used at the speaker end of the circuit. Not as effective as the pre-amp circuits.

Okay, I guess it was a goofy idea. I'll just leave the reverb in front of the amp.
