I'm wondering if there is any experimentation being done with alternative materials for cab construction, especially carbon fiber, but also other natural or man-made composites?
Just thinking outside the box of conventional wisdom, from improving tone, to cost & manufacturing issues...

I've certainly seen fibreglass and plastic enclosures, but not Carbon Fibre yet. I think that material is more expensive.

There is a tone that comes from a wood cabinet you wouldnt get with a man-made material. Pine sounds differnt from plywood so I expect CF would be very different.

Think wind-song acoustic guitars, acoustic cellos and bases are made in carbon fiber. Never hear of speaker cab made with the stuff, I would think the cost of materials, manufacture of mold, and an oven big enough to cure it in the mold would be the down side; on the + side carbon fiber would be a lighter weight material then wood or plywood and can be molded into any shape you can think of.
