Yeah, it was some stiff competition, but the TC really was the best for the type of tone we were looking for. The TC really stands out in all of the shootouts I do on sessions. Special amp... :)

Hey, Stephen...

Just a follow up question on the hi-lo switch mod you did for Brent, which he likes. You said in a post a couple of weeks ago that this switch removes the 25uF cathode bypass cap on V2 (second 12AX7 which takes the volume control, right?).

Because of the layout design, it would be convenient to add that switch to cut out BOTH the 25uF cap AND the 1.5k bypass resistor, since they are wired in parallel (i.e., wire to the switch near the tube pin 3 instead of at the board). Is that what you did? Or should the switch ONLY remove the bypass cap and leave the cathode resistor in circuit? I can't remember enough tube amp theory to know which is correct.

Also, how would you describe the tonal change when this cap is switched out?

Thanks!
Jim

Removes the cap from cathode, pin 3, in the circuit and delivers a slightly cleaner sound.

Just remove the cap using a toggle switch inbetween pin 2 and the 25uf cap.. No res = no sound!

All the technical stuff is another language to me, but I can speak to the tonal change! When I switch to Lo, the tone gets cleaner and little "smaller" - bottom end seems to roll off a bit and there's less girth through the mids. It's a less hi-fi sound and more vibey. For me, the 2 applications the switch is good for is 1) when using high output pickups - I have a Les Paul with said pickups - it's virtually impossible to get the tone entirely clean. Switch to Lo, and I have a clean tone with my LP. Or 2) if you're looking for a clean tone with a slightly different quality, with the switch to Lo it's almost like plugging into a different amp - just a different tone. In my application, this would work great for recording a doubled guitar part where you want the two tones to be similar but a little bit different...

Hope this helps.

J - just took a look - yeah I had seen that pic before. Looks AWESOME! 8) And I had to spend twice as much to satisfy my red/purple tolex obsession!! ;)

Do you have other Trinitys as well?

Unfortunately, I had to choose only 1, I was lucky enough to try the whole line and selected the 15.

Love it!

Yeah, it was the same for me - after hearing all of them, I had to have the TC-15... no regrets there, the amp is AWESOME. :D But now that I have it, I of course want all of them starting with my imminent JTM, and then maybe the Triwatt?!???!!!! I said it here first folks - I want Triwatt #2!!!    :)

Payment sent and kit and trannies should be on their way on Monday.
