Hi All,

I'm experimenting with DC heaters at the moment, I know everyone says AC is better easier and cheaper but I've got spare time so I figured why not.

I've got access to some 12v constant current switch mode supplies though my work, would these be suitable to power tube heaters?

Thanks

Interesting thread. However, using switch-mode power supplies inside guitar amps is generally a total no no. They leak high frequency noise, which the highly sensitive preamp picks up, and the resulting intermodulation products and subharmonics can be heard as an annoying buzz. The noise is both radiated, as well as conducted along the wires. It takes *very* carefully shielding and filtering to stop that stuff getting into the amp. Looks like the guy in that thread struck lucky with the power supply he used. Maybe you will too. But generally IMO a simple rectifier and big filter caps and/or an analog voltage regulator chip are a less risky way to go.

Thanks Guys,

Does having a screened supply and also mounting it outside the chassis help with the high frequency leak?

Thanks
