What the hell's a "Prosonic", lol

I guess I'll go look since it's being spoken highly of.

The Prosonic was Fender's "attempt" at a response to the Mesa Dual Rectifier. It was designed by Bruce Zinky who was the head of the Fender Custom Shop in the early 90's - he also worked on Vibro King, Tone Master, Pro Jr, Dual Professional, Custom Vibrolux, etc for Fender. He now has his own boutique amp company that's pretty cool... http://www.zinky.com/

Anyway, the Prosonic was available as a head or 2x10 combo (???). Anyway, it's a real departure for Fender as it's all about it's high gain capabilities, although it does have some nice cleans as well. The two 10's turned out to be a pretty cool thing after all, and it has switchable Class A/tube recto... Class AB/tube recto... Class AB/SS recto... pretty cool, as each setting has a very distinctive voice. It has some quirks - the EQ controls are active so if they're right down, the amp is "off" - takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it it's cool... the initial run of these amps were custom shop - later on they became production amps... they have a real cult following and if it weren't for the Prosonic, the current Supersonic wouldn't exist...

Mine is one of the Custom Shop ones... :)

I use mine in Class A most of the time and it kind of sounds like an AC30-meets-Dual Rectifier if you can imagine that!!!

Wow, I'll have to investigate the design further.

Anyone have a layout or schematic laying around. Very interested in this concept, because of what's in my head. Sorry, you know me, how strange is the brain,       8) 8) .

Cheers
Jac

Jac, I have the amp at home now (MY BACK!!!) It's small, but this thing is all glass and iron, BIG iron for it's size. It looks like a real side road for Fender design-wise. I'm really interested in the rectifier switching. I'll keep you posted when I get into it!

 Sorry to hijack the thread!

Hey guys, can a Yankee join the group? I heard that the Prosonic was only a pile of broken Princetons until Zinky had a Peperoni pizza dream one night. I'm not sure, this could only be an insider rumor started to get Fender back on the map. I still prefer my '49 chopped Merc when it comes to glass and iron.

Still raining, still dreaming. Jimi never asked if it had a dual rectifier did he?

Hey bgroup, ya gonna send me the Ampeg writeup?

Banditoamps Where the good tones rule and the circuits never sleep.
