Oh, Brent
You still have much better gear then me.
I WANT IT SO BAD. lol, lol lol (Although I have a great 2x8 Premier, sweet)

Remember though, it doesn't matter who has what! It matters what the song is at that moment, hmmm and how great it became, at the moment!!

I kind of miss the simplicity of those keyboards, but not the lack of stability!!!

I do and I don't - it's nice to be able to cover a lot of ground with few instruments, and while the new keyboards certainly don't sound like the old ones, they do their thing and they do it well... I guess my keyboard world has both and depending on what I'm doing I slide further to one or the other end of the scale... ;)

Why is music causing people to be angry.
Music is what makes us feel wonderful.
Doesn't matter what we listen too. As long as there's a smile on our face! :)
Sometimes maybe, we're too smart to see the beautiful notes floating in front of us :) :) :)
Very hard for me to type! But music is to precious to be lost amongst fighting! :) EH!!!

LOL! Don't worry jac, it's all good... ;) I think it's all said in a spirit of fun debate... although Phil does seem to want to paint me on here as some young guy that doesn't like "real" music whatever that is!! LOL! ;)

Not to worry - my entire life is music (and my family of course!)... no one needs to remind me of the power of music or how incredible it makes us feel! I experience that 'almost' every day... ;) :D

It's not a competition jac, although there is something to the old adage "He Who Dies With The Most Toys Wins!!"... ;) LOL!

I agree - they're all just tools designed to help us make our music better...

But if that's the case, then why are we all so damned obsessed with the stuff!!!!!!!! LOL! ;)

it's those beautiful notes floating in front of us, that makes us strive for the best tone that our individual ear can hear :D :D 8) 8) 8)
It's so much fun to be each of us. We're all different and why our ear hears the same.
But, each note is precious if it's played with love     :D :D 8) 8)
sorry, hard to type,

I think AJC is referring to the "sparring" Phil and I were engaged in over 70's prog rock vs. 80's funk!!!! ;)

ummm, there both excellent  :D :D :D
I really like both. I'm sorry, but the 80's funk provide us with numerous ladies who loved to dance.
The 70's wonderful prog just filled our heads with the wonderful collaboration of rock and hmmm classical. So wonderful.

But, anyway, who cares, the women were more fun. What's the argument.

I always have supported the all about the music deal, but I think I've finally came to terms with reality.

For me it's about the gear. :)

The best part is, everyone can make the same gear sound different, and another mans piece of garbage is one mans brown sound. :)

LOL! Well the first step is admitting you have a problem... haha ;)

Don't get me wrong, I LOOOOVE the gear - that's why I've devoted the majority of my life to accumulating what I have!! But I can get bored of it without the application... for me, being able to listen to the awesome tones my gear provided on a record in the context of tunes that I wrote makes my gear dreams even sexier!!! 8) :D

Agreed on this... it's amazing how different two people can sound on exactly the same thing, with the same mics in the same place!!

Hey brent, know of any good boards thatll let me go direct from a few mic's to my PC without cheapo line6 sound? Ive got a line6 UX2 and it's pretty much a bummer.

I'm looking at this guy right now: http://www.zzounds.com/item--MACPROFX8

I don't need effects or anything but it seems like no one offers a usb mixer without em.

Or maybe I just need to pick up a standard mixer of good quality and run the line out into my sound card. (creative x-fi pro, optical/rca/1/4in inputs)

Hell I could even look for a used 4 track and record on that then run the line out into my pc... seems like a lot of work though.

Thoughts, comments? Or am i never going to get good sound without a real preamp and a digi rack?

For not so crazy $$ I'm LOVING the Mackie Onyx mixers... I have both a 1620 and 1640 and they're SURPRISINGLY good for the money. Tracks done on the Onyx can definitely hang with tracks done with my "real" pres. Highly recommended.

If the littlest Onyx is still out of your price range, I'd look for a used Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro. I have one of these for my PA as well (paid $100), and it sounds totally fine for simple good quality recording.

Hope this helps.

Check out this thread as well: viewtopic.php?t=135

I have a Lambda Alpha with Cubase LE. Very Decent 2 lines, no H/W effects, only in the S/W .

 +1 on Mackie compact mixers. I used one of the original (pre-VLZ) 1202's onstage in my keyboard rig for years. These days, I have a 1642 VLZ Pro into an E-Mu 0404 sound card for recording. If you ever want to add some low-cost-yet-respectable fx without loading down your CPU, the little Lexicon mx200 can be found pretty cheap on eB*y. It'll function via USB as a plug-in for the recording software.

I'm on the hunt for a VLZ.

When running the vlz into a pc, can you track everything individually, or is it just a stereo mix?

Edit - found out the answer to my question... and found a 1402vlz3 for cheap... hopefully i can lock it up before its gone. :) (it's cheaper than the 402 vlz3 is new muhaha)
