I took an AD5 (a little orange 5 watt tube amp with a single tone, volume and input) home from the local music store.

They let me try stuff at home, as I am a good customer.

I was at first thrilled with it, especially the tone when cranked up. Straight through the amp, it sounds good but turned down it starts lacking some balls. It has to be up at least 1/3 of the way to sound great.

AFtewr a few hours I plugged my Trinity 15 (the original one) back in. Wow... what a difference. I will be returning the AD5, even though it would be cool to have and is easy to carry around... my Trinity 15 1x12 combo is a superior amp.

Cool Andrew. I might have grabbed one of these instead of the Vox if one had been available when the urge hit.

I find you have to take all these little amps with a grain of salt. I haven't found one yet that blew me away out of the box, but if you just want a compact practice amp or something ultra-portable for small gigs & parties they can fit the bill nicely. With some tweaking some of them can be jam & gig worthy. My modded VJ can keep up at moderate jam levels with a heavy-handed drummer & bass...as long as you want Marshall-esque overdrive. Actually, it can be too lound for that application with my v30 2x12. It has no hope clean though...the headroom just isn't available.

Personally I'm looking forward to the mother of all practice amps...the Tramp!

Thats what I was thinking... I will for sure buy a Tramp kit when they are available, and then the Orange will be redundant...

It is a cool little amp, no doubt. Just not as cool as my Trinity 15 though. But it would be nice to carry around... its so little! I will wait for the tramp. :)

Yeah, the Tramp, that's the ticket. I guesss the best thing to do would be to compare it to a lot of the ones in the store somehow.
 Even better, we'll compare it to a Tweed Desluze, TC15, 18 Watt and TRIWATT.
