Here is a shot of my latest project, a guitar for the fellow that owns the music shop in Timmins. I have been bringing in my home made guitars for a number of years and he finally asked for a custom

Its basically a copy of a PRS CE22, with a Fender scale length ebony board, jumbo frets, a set of covered Fralin PAF's and a SChaller strat style floating trem.

Just finished the spraying today. The guitar is a bolt on, but the neck is actually just being held in place by friction... I sprayed the body and neck separately.

Man, I look forward to your guitar builds. Beautiful stuff. Next time I buy a guitar I should talk to you first.

Man - I'm actually getting tired of saying "SWEET" whenever you build one...but dude, that's SWEET!!! Not the finish I'd have chosen, but it's not my guitar now, is it...

Well,
Its done! When I got to work this morning, I decided to start wet sanding. Before you know it, the thing is assembled, wired up and ready to go!

I was just playing it now at home for a few minutes.. there is just one small issue with the 4th string sticking in the nut slot... a quick file swipe will fix that. Otherwise, she sings beautifully! The Fralins are great pickups, and the guitar sounds awesome through my Triwatt!

Back to work (real work this time)....

Two words.......Purr Tay! I love transparent red on figured wood. Sometimes I like to put down a bit of black or dark blue dye (& sand most of it back off) before I seal the grain. Makes the figure really go 3-D. Did you do that sort of thing here, or is the top really that flamey? Did you hand carve the top or do you have CNC capabilities?

Ya I was also wondering if you hand carved that top?

The dye is straight red that I mixed up from red, black and yellow.

Yes I hand carve all my tops.... no cnc (yet!)

I actually sculpt all my tops with a small 3 1/2" disk grinder and a 50 grit cloth backed disk. Takes some practice and finesse but works well. Been doing it for years... this top took me less than 1/2 hour to carve. Then I finish up with 80/100/120 etc on a 5 " random orbital before hand sanding.

It was played tonight by myself and the lead guitarist in my band for 3+ hours... its hot!

He wants it... but I have to deliver it to the buyer tomorrow. But if he bails (you never know..) the lead player said its his (just dont tell his wife).

I still would love to keep it myself!

PS I just ordered some Korina (white limba) to make a few more so stay tuned...

I actually had a "real" PRS CE 24 with a great looking top a few years ago. It was an mid 90's model, maple on alder body and bolt on maple neck. But I hated the stock pickups, more importantly I found the wide thin neck WAY too thin, and I ended up selling it.

The neck on this mother is WIDE and FAT. 1 3/4" at the nut, and a medium D shape. Not overy chunky, but feels fat in the hand... with the jumbo frets it is a good playing guitar if you like meaty necks!
