Can someone post the Bruce Collins Tone/Volume mod schematic? Is this the same mod as in Stephen's assembly instructions for circuit as in 6G3?

Thanks.

I'm not familiar with his mods. I did one which added a lot of dirt and called it the "Holy Grail" mod. Not after any design AFAIK.

is there a mod that lets the volume come up a little more gradually and with a little less "BAM!" ??

Also, I am sort of unhappy with the BBQ Alnico in my 5E3 combo. Too dark for me.

WHats a good speaker(s) (I know the TT alnico probably would be a good one) guys are liking?

Use PEC 2W military spec pots. They will cost you about $9 each but they have a super smooth feel while also help cut down on noise.

but does the volume come up a little more gradually?

Thats one of my peeves with the 5e3... mine goes from 0 to 60 in about 3 degrees of motion... :)

I only play in the basement - all my amps can't get past 1.5 before they are too loud, so I tame them with a lower gain preamp tube and a volume pedal - which allows me to get the amps up into their sweet zone of 7 to 10.

Yes, the taper of the PEC's make the sweep much smoother.

Hi AJC.
You can get 1M PEC pots from Tubes and More (AES) for about $9 US each.

Here's a link to their web site as well...

I checked out the PEC pots a long time ago and I never could find any real reason to use them . . other than being expensive, what's the value proposition? Do we have empirical evidence that they last longer or are quieter? They are certainly heavy duty (and heavy) but I don't generally pick up my amp by the knobs. How are they better than a CTS or a good mil-spec conductive plastic pot?

If I can find a good reason, I'll drop them into my Triwatt. :D

Alphas and CTS are both fine (CTS suck these days though).

I like the PECs in the Tweed cause

A. They lower noise with their 2W rating. Yes I have tried switching the pots out for Alpha's.

B. They have a slightly different taper than Alpha's. I think Alpha's are 10% or 15% log taper. PEC's are different, whatever they are. They seem to work well in the Tweed smoothing out the volume sweep. They might be uder crap in a 18W or Triwatt but they seem to work in the Tweed. imo....
