We want to take the Tramp to the next level and use it in a Trinity Amp Building Course.

It will be a lecture / workshop format that will teach theory and the construction skills required to assemble and properly wire up a Tramp.

Students will sucessfully build their own amp with the help of an instructor and Trinity Amps' comprehensive build documentation.

Enrollment will be limited to less than 10 students.

Workshop would take 1 to maybe 1.5 days

The course would cover:

Tube Theory related to the Tramp
* Reading Schematics
Working Safely
Build Techniques - layouts, grouding, * test voltage readings - how, why and where on start up.
Tramp Hands-On build.

Just wondering if there is any interest and input.

We're hoping the first session would run in Toronto, ON in March or April 2010.

Coco,
I think this is a great idea and I've been hoping for something like this for a while. Everything I've learned about amp building/theory has been on this very friendly forum and some others. At times I struggle, especially with the all the formulas and calculations. I'm not an E.E. I'm a very hands on visual learner, so anyone offering a amp building theory seminar would be a boon for me. I still struggle with reading schematics (getting better) and have no clue as to how to go from schemo to layout. It would be awesome if you could cover these topics in the workshop. Keep me posted...lots of ideas for builds I want to do.

Thanks
Jersey Joe

My birthday is in March. Maybe I can squeeze out a cool trip to Toronto and a new amp kit as a gift. Sounds like a lot of fun. Keep us posted.

Estimated cost?

Even though I have built a # of amp kits I may be interested if I can swing the travel to Toronto...

Let me know when you nail down a date(s).

Definitely! You could also include all about test voltage readings to be made - how, why and where on start up.

I need to get a venue before the cost is ready. Working on that.

Today I looked over a local place for a course. It could accomodate up to 24 students, but I think the first one will be around 12. I do think it will take the beter part of tweo days.

It's in the West end of Toronto (427/QEW) and I'm also negotiating a discount deal with the local electronic store for the students.

Looks like April / May would be the best time for the course and possibly a second one in October if there was interest.

more to come

What I could really use would be a Tolex/Tweed-ing class. I can do metal working, wires and wood. Somehow this amp upholstery thing has always alluded me

Normally not, unless you fly low-cost....than the guitar will probably cost more than your own seat.

One tip: ALLWAYS put it in a hard case when flying. Most people expect they can take it along inside the cabin, which is true IF there is room... If not it will be placed in the cargo hold...

You can´t imagine how often this happens. I tend to allow the passenger to store it with us on the flightdeck (after I have checked out the guitar, security precautions, of course) 8)

But that is not the standard.

Would that be a Tramp Build or the Amp Building Course?
