I finished all the wiring and triple-checked all the connections this afternoon. I placed the fuse in and fired it up... the LED came on for a long moment and then faded out slowly. I don't seem to be getting any power at all now. I didn't see any smoke or hear anything pop. Anybody have any ideas where I can start troubleshooting? I can get pictures up later.

Thanks again for your help.

Mike

Recheck your VRM switch wiring. It looks wrong but I can't see all of it from the pic.

Here's a hopefully better pic of the VRM wiring... everything seems to be wired correctly, but I could be overlooking something. I am, in fact, blowing the fuse. What do you think?

Wiring to VRM pot looks OK from what I can see. If the LED is fading, then there must be no heater supply. If that's the case, then the PT must be overloaded. Surprised then that the fuse did not blow. My guess is also the VRM installation. do some more checks on that. Measure reistances etc.

There was a post by zaphod on how to short it out, but honestly, I have not done that so can't cofirm it works.

There is a short to ground on one of the power points. If they check OK, then my next step would be to pull the VRM circuit out of the loop and test again, w/o tubes; then tubes,

I think so.. I'll double check when I get home. My layout has the '+' on the same side as the control knobs. Are you building the head or the combo? I have the combo

LarsOK -this is interesting. Now that you say that, I'm looking at other build pics and everybody has the negative end towards the front panel. My layout clearly has the '+' towards the front panel... what am I missing?

My Bad!!

I flipped them around on the last layout revision and never noticed that. They should be like this.

Also, probably need to reverse the two other wires on the 12AX7. We need to chat about that.
