Its finally two Tramps, although I still have some work to do. Still have to finalize my bias resistors for the power tubes EL34 KT88. Still might use a rotary switch so I can do 6V6,6L6,EL34,KT88. 5k/2.5k taps are switched.
Somewhere around here I have a 25w 1k wire wound pot. With that and a 1ohm resistor, it should be easy.
I am hoping the bias resistors will be close between6L6/El34 so I only need to worry about the KT88.

Looks real cool with that fat power tube in there! :D

Yes, that's how it worked with the Tramp's predecessor I designed. The same resistor approximately worked for both, so it was just a case of flipping the OT impedance.

Big fat sound as well 8)
I think this Tramp has a new bottom. It will be a WGS G15C as I like the sound of 15" speakers and I love WGS.
Just don't know what tolex to cover it in. British cocoa or marshall red are what I am thinking now. Might change before I get my cab.
It will be getting a Trinity head cab in garnet.

Might have call this Tramp a fat bottomed girl

OK the mod bug has bit.
I am taking apart my Tramp head to incorporate kurtlives impeadance switch mod.
Noticed that the chassis is predrilled for a second preamp tube.
Noticed that two of the pots are normal pots.
Know that I have pull/push pot switches in the required resistance.
I love(sometimes hate, having a variety of minor troubles) my cascade connection 18w and its lush overdriven tones.

Don't know if two extra stages of preamp will be to much or not.
I am planning to use the Tramp preamp cct and just tweak until I get the output I want. then it will be left to be switched in and out as needed.
The other option is one stage of preamp and use an output from the transformer to drive the other tube half for a speaker emulation for headphone or mixing board.
And I still play around with the idea of a mic i/p for harp or voice.

Any thoughts or ideas?

If you use the extra hole in the chassis, you can make a real high gain screamer, based on the Single-Ended Lead (SEL) from AX84.com - http://www.ax84.com/sel.html

Thanks Zaphod
I am going to be adding the lead rythym switch as well as the variable bias mod.
Just don't know if I am going to do two stages of extra preamp or use the second half for something else.
Pull push lead switch here we come.
Now to see if I have the parts I need.

You could also do like a mini single ended Train Wreck. Iirc they have 3 or 4 gain stages plus the PI. When they are built SE style they usually add an extra triode gain stage to kinda mimic the PI. It's a fairly common little amp build, tons of gain! If you look around there is a fair bit of info on it.
Just an idea...

You have no idea what those three little words have cost me and the utility I work for  but 8)
I have really learnt not to say it in a roomful of EE types.

:rol

And now you are doing it to me and my Tramp.
mini Train Wreck = Maxi Tramp ???
I think Stephan said the fillament windings can handle 3 amps.
I do have an old working spring reverb that would fit nicely in the head cab.

Though a line out/headphone using one triode section and the other as a cascade section was my original idea. I think with a switch or two, I can do both

Cool stuff!
One tube reverb would be a neat one too. You got lots of room in that head cab it there.

I have used the one tube reverb circuit in a few of my amps and I really like it. Very effective, low parts count/complexity and great sound. Its not super super intense and whacked out like the old BF reverbs but it adds nice depth and echo and that's what I like so it's a good fit.

The Fat Bottled Tramp Head cab has just enough room to remove and install a KT88, maybe 3/8". So a one tube reverb is out for the head using the tank I have but not the combo. I just don't know if I want to play with the combo. I think I am afraid to touch it! Its one of the early kits and has not been upgraded from original because something might alter its mojo.
The combo 6L6 version with an american voiced alnico is everything I have ever wanted in an amp
So on the head version I am back to multi stage cascade preamps again, or an old fashioned tube tremolo cct.
Seeing as I have to order some parts, final decision can wait.

Fun project to do together! Be patient with him. It will be interesting to see how a Virgin builder handles it!
