Is it possible to use 6l6 tubes on tweed 5e3 amp ? It would probably increase the output power ? maybe with a different output transformer ?
Or maybe with an appropriate output transformer (appropriate taps) it's possible to switch between 6l6 and 6v6 ?

thanks

I know people do it with the Blackface/Silverface Deluxe but I haven't heard of anyone trying it with a Tweed. The two designs use different approaches to biasing the output stage so maybe that's why? Be intersting to see what the gurus have to say.

I think it's more a matter of heater current than impedance. I don't know what the Trinity Deluxe heater current is though.

I made a quick research and I found something interesting on Mercury Magnetics web site.

This thier axiom series in the batch of tweed deluxe output type transformers :

OT FTDO-59M Tweed -- '59 -- Dual 8Ω taps (one optimized for at 5k for use with two 6L6s
the other optimized at 8k for use with two 6V6s) -- grain-oriented soft iron laminations 165.00

Maybe this is the solution ?

Why are you thinking about doing this?

More volume? You think about a speaker switch? Or do you need a lot more volume, because ...

...You could always just build a bassman....or a tweed twin.

or a double 5E3.

I think thats why you dont see this mod... Plenty of awesome tweed 6L6 amps.

I built one of thsoe for a customer once - with all MM iron & 6L6 switching option. IMO, the 'juice wasn't worth the squeeze".

You have a classic Tweed amp there, enjoy it.
