Trinity manual says after testing AC to install rectifier tube and check plate voltages and that they should be slightly higher than the voltage table because there are no tubes.

However I see 425 volts at all plates (whereas the preamp voltages on the table are far lower) - is this correct or do I have an issue? If they should be lower, what would you suggest to check in terms of faulty components, incorrect layout etc?

I don't want to proceed until I get a heads up from someone in the know...

Thanks!

Lindsay

Without tubes plugged in and running, *all* of the voltages should read ridiculously high.

I managed to figure out the 420v issue myself, but thanks for the reply Zaphod. It might make sense for the Trinity folks to edit the manual to make it a little more clear on the voltages without tubes for Noobs such as myself, as it took a lot of sifting through threads and a little finger crossing on my part to infer that this was OK and take the leap to install tubes and boot it up - but my impatience won out and I did in spite of not being 100% sure.

In any event, voltages seem reasonable in most places except I have some odd voltages on v3 (see below) - tried 2 different tubes and both are similar

I'm quite high on pin 1 & quite low 6/7 vs the Trinity suggested values? I assume I need to look at the components that connect to those pins .. but it seems odd that I am high on one side of the tube and low on the other??

I should note that I have the 220k "brown' grid leak resitors vs the standard 470k that would probably throw them off a bit, but they seem quite off balance...

pin 1 - 290 (220 suggested)
pin 2 - 62 (52 suggested)
pin 3 - 65 (75 suggested)
pin 6 - 176 (217 suggested)
pin 7 - 34 (62 suggested)
pin 8 - 65 (75 suggested)

resoldered everything attached to and from v3 and voila! - voltages in spec.

How's the Trinity Plexi going? Did you finish it yet? Hows does it sound?
