I found a sort of solution to that problem from all my struggles reading the tiny print on components that go into stompboxes. Seems I needed BOTH better light AND magnification. I had tried a magnifying glass and a flashlight, but that was too cumbersome.
I was at a drug store a few months back waiting for a prescription and I noticed the reading glasses. Hmmm! Hands-free magnification! Yes! When I poked around the display, I noticed one pair that actually came with little LEDs at the corners of the frames! Bingo, double whammy! Hands-free light AND magnification.
The things work perfectly for what I need them to do. IIRC, they're something like 1.5x, so not really that much. Just enough to make a difference. They do go through the little watch batteries quickly, but I realized that I only really need one of the lights on at a time - effectively doubling the battery life. So far, so good.
