Since I did my Tramp build at "amp camp" I've been having a great time playing the crap out of it. I've got mine set up for 6V6 or KT66 power tube and I've been using the KT66 99% of the time. I'm constantly messing around with the preamp tube because I find that the sound can change dramatically. I've tried JJ's, Tungsol, Sovtek, chinese, Bugle Boy, RFT, but I find that vintage Sylvania tubes are phenomenal in this amp.
I'm starting to look for some vintage 6V6's. Any recommendation???

I like NOS RCA 6V6 tubes. Am using them in my Tweed Deluxe.

Sylvania NOS are nice. Sugggest you keep the power level at about 8 on those NOS vintage tubes though.

Thanks for the heads up on the power settings. I haven't had any issues with NOS 12 AX7's but I've got some Sylvania 6V6's from the 50's so I'll watch the power. The Bendix tubes look very interesting.

I beg to differ. 1950s NOS Sylvania 6V6s should have no problem handling the voltage in the amp. Those are really solid quality tubes. Its the real old 1930s and 1940s metal can and coke bottle format tubes that you need to be more careful with. Typical 6V6GTs were designed for use in TVs and were meant to be able to withstand the occasional hit of a 1000V+ If you have any worries, just run the Tramp in a dark room and watch the anode (aka "plate") as you run the tube at full voltage. Make sure that the anode doesn't show any sign of redness, which would indicate that it's running too hot.

The Sylvanias arrived yesterday and sound great. More of a "vintage" tone I think. Not as in your face as the JJ 6V6 or my KT66's. They don't seem to have any problem with the voltage, although running them at 8-9 provides a pretty smooth sound. :D
