I had Coco build me a Tramp. His tweed masterpiece arrived Wednesday and it has put the holy F in fun. Yippee. It has knobs that go to 11.

As per Coco's advice, I swapped the 6V6 for a winged C 6L6.

I play a PRS Mira. My favorite setting so far has been VRM at about 5, fat on, 'tude on, and volume and master both at 9. Using the bridge pickup (humbucker position), lead playing is grindy, smeary, snarly, and awesome. I can't stop playing.

With the VRM up, the amp gets much more articulate. Easy to get some nice jazz sounds (although I can't even pretend to be a jazz player). If I want more grind at higher VRM levels, I can get it by backing off the master volume to 7 or 8. This amp is *very* sensitive to the relative positions of the master volume and volume, especially as the VRM gets turned up. A little nudge can make a big difference. It is also very sensitive to guitar volume - I like this a lot about the amp, and is a big part of what makes the amp so enjoyable to play.

I went with the new tone tubby low wattage alnico (25 watts). A bit nasally in the tweed setting to me. Excellent in the 'tude mode. This is a light speaker, and the whole amp feels very light to me (just what I was looking for). I'll report back when the speaker breaks in - Coco says that the tone tubbies take 20 hours to break in, but I honestly think they keep improving until about 50 hours of hard playing.

I think I'll order a cover for the amp, but I love the look of a beaten up tweed. I might even take some chains to it...(just kidding Coco!)...

Beat up Tweed does look good, but when you get something like a new handmade amp, it's worth looking after I reckon.

Wow, checked out the site. I like the idea of a clamshell cover...

I have this crazy idea of using my digitech jamman to sample a clip of my playing, and then playing the exact clip into my amp at different settings to get a range of trinity tramp clips. Might be a good Christmas project.

Looks great, very classic looking, hard to beat the lacquered Tweed Oxblood look.

Do those speakers have a Hemp cone?

Yes they have hemp cone speakers, just a low watt (25W) capacity.

Yep, it is a 12" 25 watt hemp cone and I like it a lot. I probably have 5 or 6 hours on it, and it already getting much smoother (seems to have a faster break-in than its big brother). I haven't heard the tramp with a 10" blackbird so can't compare. Coco thought the Jensen was a bit more efficient.

I have a cover from coveramp.com for my TC-15. Classy, fits well, tough.

Interesting, I like the VRM on close to max - 3/4 with a 6L6 or EL34. But 5 is nicely brown! Cool.
