This green levant tramp, with salt and pepper grill cloth, was just delivered with a 12" Tone Tubby. In order to make it possible to plug in speakers, the output jacks were reversed with the bias switches. A permanent design change we will make on the next series of Tramp chassis. The build has a second toggle switch to select the impedance of the OT (5K / 2.5K) rather than being combined with the rotary impedance switch.
A true grab and go amp, it can use any Octal power tube although it was delivered with Tung Sol 12AX7 and 6V6. The plan is to use an EL34 in it, but it sounded glorious with a 6L6. Shawn Dore tested it for a week before delivery. http://www.shawndoreband.com

I'm the proud owner of this Tramp, just brought it home today. The tones that this amp can produce are awesome and the controls make it really versatile for practice, jamming and even small gigs.

Thanks Steve for making those custom mods, especially the 12" Tone Tubby speaker; it's got a huge, full sound. I'm looking forward to trying it out with an EL-34 for some British grind!

Cheers,

Scott

Beautiful. Love the upcoming design changes that facilitate 12" speaker usage. Now I'm sort of glad I haven't built a Tramp yet. :D

You can make the mods easily with a drill. We just reversed the bias switches with the output jacks.
Design has been changed but wont be implemented until the current inventory is depleted.
dont wait, if you want one, we can mod for you in advance!

I've been trying different 12" speakers in my tramp. The low wattage tone tubby didn't have enough jam for what I needed, so I tried a re-issue Jensen P12Q (pretty good, but a bit harsh sounding to my ears), and have a vintage P12N in it now. The winner by far.

I have tone tubby alnicos in other amps, and have tried driving them with the Tramp, but I prefer the P12N. Loud and punchy, and the bigger magnet fills out the bass and smooths things out. I'm ordering a celestion blue alnico from avatar (good prices). With the magnet cover removed, the alnico magnet is just over 100 mm in diameter so should fit without modifications (other than an "L" jack for the speaker wire). Any magnet with a diameter < 4" will fit with the 12" baffle that Coco put in my combo (provided that the speaker housing isn't too deep).

We have put the Tone Tubby Red Alnico in the tramp and it is excellent. I would think the P12N would be good, and the Blue clone, better. If you we to reversed the bias switches with the output jacks they would all lift without mods and special jacks, I think.
