With over the board wiring you can attach the wires after the board is installed. If the wires are under the board, you have to attach them before the board is installed and make sure they are long enough to get to their destinations.
Under the board is usually how Hiwatt did it.
I would use solid 20 gauge wire rated for 600 volts. For safety, all wire in a chassis should be rated for the highest voltage in the circuit, even if it only carries a few volts. Some wires in a Triwatt carry around 450 volts.
