Hi: I just ordered a sIII v6 kit. I built a Tramp several years ago, but I am new to 18 watt amps and Marshall type amps( I usually use Fenders). FYI--I choose the sIII v6 for it's lower gain and for its Bluesbreaker-type flexibility. I don't want excessively aggressive edgy tubes, but prefer more smoother, creamier breakup tones.

Can you 18 watt veterans recommend some current production tubes for use for the build and for a few months after it is built?

Here is what I am considering (would these be good to start with or can you recommend something better):
Power section:
6V6-- probably Tungsols RI (but maybe Mullard RI)
EL84-- Mullards RI (but maybe JJ ore even Tungsol)
Rectifier:
EZ81—JJs (I have read that this is a good reliable tube for the rectifier)
Preamps section-12AX7s
V1—Mullard RI
V2 (PI) JJ 803 ??
V3—Mullard RI

I have read that the 18watters are on the bright side, so I don't want to get bright preamp tubes.

Once I get it all built and play around, I will eventually get some NOS tubes but I don't want to do that yet.

What do you guys recommend for new production or RI tubes for my new sIII V6 kit build?

BTW, I love the tone of the audio clips in this thread (and would love to know what tubes were used for it): http://www.trinityamps.com/phpbb/viewto ... f=10&t=753

Thanks for helping.

If you don't want bright, stay away from Tun Sol. Great tubes and clear sound but a bit on the bright side IMO. FWIW, we tend to use JJ across the board, possibly injecting a Tung Sol or Mullard in the early preamp stages.
