Hi Guys,

Does anyone have any suggested locations for the Choke install? I was thinking next to OT in the same orientation. If anyone can share their experience with the placement of a Choke and any potential noise issues that may have occurred. At the same time, should I all wires to and from it?

Also, on a similar note, is there much concern to protect the PT from valve shorts? I was thinking of fusing on the +/- 290V and also on the valve heaters.

Would be great to get your thoughts,
Cheers,
Tim

Perpendicular to the OT, midway between the PT & OT. Fuse the B+ at 250-> 500 ma, slo blo if you want to.

Thanks Stephen. It doesn't look like there isn't much room, but I could put the Choke were the OT goes and move the OT further to the right. See the pic attached. Do you think that this positioning would affect the noise that much?

Cheers,
Tim

If you can fit it betwee the PT and OT then move them a bit but no too far. I will see if we can get you more advice on this..

What kind of choke is that, it looks huge?

I’ve added chokes to 18Ws and TC-15s and usually used the 50mA Hammond chokes.

See attached pic for my 18W choke placement. No noise

Ya, it's a little big...30H, VoxAC30 replica, Hammond 194E, 100mA - See link:

https://nextgenguitars.ca/products/hamm ... 100ma.html

Some of the old AC30s and AC15s had indicated 10-20H and I couldn't find much within that range so I went with the 30H from nextgenguitars.ca.

I'm not 100% on the effect of larger chokes, but from what I've read, it shouldn't matter too much. I think in order to fit this on the amp I'll have to move the OT and drill some new holes... to which I still start now!

Thanks for the assistance and nice pic!
Tim

Bigger equals stiffer. Not better, not worse, just different. 100 mA is well over what you nee, as mentioned 50 mA would be fine. I would try it without moving your output transformer if you could and see if it causes any extra noise.
