I'm getting ready for either a Lightning or 18w build--any issues running 7189s in either of these amps, given that I understand el84s usually run hot in them?

I have had pretty good luck with the Russian EL84 - 7189A - 6BQ5 tubes. They are called 6P14P in Russia. Pretty meaty sounding and tough. they can stand the higher voltages in the Lightning.
No long term issues and the sound is very good.

Go For It! 8)

Hi,

I have been using the Russian 6P14P's in my 18watt TMB. I got them from Barry at Corona Amp Works. I like them very much. The amp in question is my favorite at present. Very articulate and responsive.
But I haven't built a lightening yet either so that may be my new fav...if I can find the time to build it.

I highly recommend the tubes

Greg
