New to the forum and hope this is the right place to post this....
Looking for someone familiar with Lightning kit buids.........I just aquired a Ceri@tone lighting clone that sounds awesome, but has a buzz on the low E string that only becomes apparent when at medium to high volume levels......if you keep the guitar volume down it goes away. This amp has seen a good tech who found the problem on his scope (said something about congestion at 500hz), but wasn't sure he could fix it for a reasonable cost because no way to figure how much time COULD be involved.
I'm also thinking if the amp has to have extensive work, might be cool to make it into DC-15 with the ef-86 and 6 way tone knob....
Any suggestions?

Sorry, I never saw this post, so you may alrady have fixed the problem.

Could be lots of things including a microphonic tube; a retainer spring, but I don't think it's due to the design or layout, so I'd start to check from the input towards the front. Resolder / reflow the cliff input jacks - seriously. start to replace tubes, one at a time.

We can help you through it.

been thru tubes, speakers, retainers and all the obvious stuff.............with no luck. So I sent it to s2amps. Hes going to fix it plus convert the output section to a 18watter plus add a bright switch and cut control. Should be glorious when finished....

s2 found the problem.............basically wasn't put together correctly, things not soldered, etc. Kinda stuff beginners make mistakes on. I also had him convert the PI to a 18 watt design and now the bottom is very tight and really has a nice overdrive........also more lowend than your typical lightning. It really sounds great and yes s2 was great to work with ......in fact I think I'm going to have him build me something else (thinking about a 6V6 TMB 18 watter)

s2 is starting a new amp line and from the sounds of it, he's got some cool ideas for these amps...you might want to ask him what he's got brewing and get in on the ground floor...
