Wow! That really pains me considering the thousands of words I and several other people have written to help people with BBQ kits. All that effort was not because we were obligated, but because we wanted to. I hope it won't be lost!

I agree, it is a mess. It's a shame that the forum has to take the hit. I hope it doesnt shake things up to bad. 18 Watt is definatley like a home to me. I dont think I ever would have built an amp if I had not found it. I am finally starting to learn enough that I can help others some. I also noticed BBQ still has links to GDS on his site. I wonder how long that will last? Maybe his web guy is just slow.

I was actually told that there may be a major shake-up! I can't give details so please don't ask.

It is unfortunate that BBQ boys' customers will be punished for his short sightedness BUT that IS how it will have to be. It's the right choice for now. Hopefully, in time, we can patch things up and get back to semi-normal. I don't think they will remove the info...just references to BBQ and his products. That is my speculation though.

I did not discuss this with Anthony but I believe that Moo-A has been bannished. It's really odd because in person he's not so bad.

I recently chatted with the other person (as in not the BBQ one) and he told me the admins of 18W refused to ban him, but just wanted him to tone it down. According to him, he voluntarily bowed out.

Gotta respect Gabi and Graydon and bunch for not bowing down to BBQ boy...Ironman can at times, be abrassive...but I think that's just part of the flair...it's too bad BBQboy has such a thin skin...

Yes and no. I still would've posted BBQ's letter for all the world to see. That would take some cajones IMHO.

The other party has in fact been a valuable member of the community in the past. He's always been a little on the edge, but has contributed quite a bit.

Like I said before, I think the whole thing is just extremely unfortunate.

Listen ....I like Moo-A BUT you CANNOT simply take unprovoked shots at people again and again. It's unacceptable! Remember when BNWITT kept taking shots at Moo? It was unacceptable! He was banned. I liked Barry too but it's a matter of respect to other forum members. A lot of neutral people don't want to be subject to that and by ignoring their feelings you disrespect them! It's inconsiderate.

I don't know the details of Moo's departure! I was told by another forum member who got it from another mod (not Anthony) that Moo was banned. Lots of hearsay in there huh!

There are a LOT of guys that get very angry/uptight about commercialism! I don't! Can someone please explain it to me? I don't understand why that offends some people!

I am not looking for a flame fest...it's an honest question!

I don't think people generally have an issue with commercialism. In the 18watt.com case, the issue was raised that only a few were allowed banner advertizing. Others, including Trinity, asked with an offer to pay for the privilege, but were turned down. There was at least one exception. That's fair enough when you own and support the site. But what if you are also soliciting donations for web site support? Should that not come from those who benefit from said advertizing?

I think that led to some of the more agressive 'commercialistic' behaviour you saw from time to time and ultimately, maybe even this event, as, overtime, it got out of hand and was not moderated.

Justthe same, I have to thank 18watt.com for allowing 'qualified' dealers to advertise their wares at all, if even for a short while. It might have seems a bit unfair, but some sites would never permit that. 18watt.com also facilitated a healthy exchange of ideas and discussion.

I think we live in a world where commercialism is the norm, the majority of us are hardened to the commercialism and know what to take with a pinch of salt however I guess a lot of nubies coming on to the 18Watt site believe that the opinions are reasonably un-biased. Certain people in the past have worded replies to questions from new people in such a way that it influences the decision which I personally don't like. When it comes down to knocking your competitors product I guess it is just plain bad business practice if not unlawful. My2c

Agree, that becomes the ugly side of it.

So, NO product bashing. Just the facts!

Sept 11 has changed the data.

Folks are nervous, overworked, emotion runs high.

My lawyer has just slapped Ben Ladden with a lawsuit.

Folks...only a matter of days before we all check KC's footage on the plasma.

I haven't bought anything from BBQ myself but I am not aware of very many online vendors who put links up to his competitor's websites! I would say he has (or had) the online community spirit at heart.

You do need to make sure the facts in this case are your own observations and not 2nd hand. Also, how you present them should not hint at a greater issue that doesn't exist. I think the rusted one crossed that line pretty severely.

For instance, I could make s2 transformers sound bad by misrepresentation pretty easily, just using the facts, and come to a completely misleading conclusion. (Of course, we know they are a wonderful option in high quality 18watt style transformers). So I think we have the obligation to respect the people we are helping with accurate information. In the case of any vendor, I don't think using hearsay as a source of facts is enough, or even respectable.

In the case of most of the vendors I've dealt with I've had some issues or mixed expectations with some of their products. That is to be expected when dealing with people over the net and having shipping companies involved. The real mark of a reputable dealer is how they handle issues. So far I've been extremely lucky. Everyone has been great, even BBQ.

As for substandard products - I think the marketplace will take of those.

It must be more serious/intrusive than they originally thought. Who does the web work?

Gabi hosted/maintained it at work, I believe. I have a wee bit of inside info but suffice it to say, there is some internal shuffling going on and some changes being made....the site is supposed to be up soon, though. On another note, I haven't seen KC posting on any of the alternate boards...he must be chomping at the bit.

I really hope the board is up in the next few weeks. I'm about to start my first 18 watt build.
