I built a Spitfire using a salvaged chassis and output trannie. The amp sounds great, and I am thrilled with the results. The original didn't have a standby switch of course, but I decided to add one to my build, so I inserted a switch in between pin 8 of the 5AR4 and the first filter cap. When I power on the amp with the standby switch open, after a few seconds I hear a little bit of hum coming from the speaker cab. Guitar sounds don't play of course, and the controls (volume, tone, master) have no effect on this hum.

What would cause this?

Steve

Are you taking the tap for your OT before or after the standby switch?

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding......

Thats exactly what the problem was - thanks for the tip. I moved the OT center tap to be after the switch, and now, when on standby, all is quiet.

Thanks so much!
