I was thinking of building a 6v6 version of the lightning or dc30 or . I think someone has already built one. I was thinking of a dc30 or lighning pre and deluxe reverb output. Need some opinions.

thanks

Great idea. CraigB has designed a Spitfire version of this, so it would be really easy to extend that to a Lightning. I'm about to build his Cragar Atlas Tweed and try it out. Then I mightextend it to a Lighting configuration.

See the thread "CraigB, what is a Tweed Atlas you mention?" in the "Dressing Room"

Hmm... this is a tasty idea! A 6V6 Spitfire must sound really great.

So, how many watts would that make it? Around 25 or so?

Paul;

The prototype with the Marshall 18 Watt Tranny, which is rated at 15 to 25 watts, was disipateing 42 watts. Let's call it an even 20.

Hey guys! I'll try to get the Puter DAW back up and running soon. The Mobo decided to die awhile back. I'll make some as soon as I do.

Thanks!!!

Guys, as was discussed earlier about the Atlas, it is basically a 6V6 version of a Spitfire, no choke filter, and slight tweaks here and there. One of the guys who built one and was happy made a soundclip that I think sounds pretty decent and captures the basic tone, considering it was recorded with his laptop's microphone. Hope this helps.

i took the thought a little further. I like the sound of a deluxe reverb. so i just finished a board which is a fender deluxe. i striped out the tremolo and added a lightning pre amp. I seperated the preamps on the board, for picture sake.
Leting my batteries charge for camera. i will post a picture once they are charged

Nice tone. Nice pickin'. Nice warm overdrive. I will have to check the schematic re the tone stack. CraigB, do you know what speakers were used for that clip?

The clip title says "CelestionV30" I liked the sound too.
I'm now really looking forward to mine. Just hope the Holy Ghost (AKA R&D department) is as excited about it as I am! 8)

I personally love EF86s, but would never use one in a combo because of the microphonics. They are great in heads.

I even tried one in a boost pedal and found it to pick up stage vibrations from its position on the floor. Bass drum and bass player's 18" cab aren't a good combination with an EF86 in front of them.

If you can find a good NOS tube, those aren't as bad as current production stuff, but... Someone like Lord Valve might be able to hook you up with a good one.

Also, you need to think about stragies for taming the gain. They are very high output tubes.

Hey guys...time to resurect this thread a little...

I'm smack dab in the middle of building my board (actually, I finished it last night)...and I started wondering about the possibility of making this lightning a 6v6er instead..

I've had quite a few el84's crap out on me in the past few months...and I've read that the 6v6 (especially the JJ) is literally indestructable. Combine that with the reported extra headroom you get with a 6v6, it seems like a no brainer to me...

So, what does one need to do to the existing lightning schematic to make it suitable for 6v6 tubes?
