I've recently taken very fondly to hooking my trinity 15 to my bass cab and using my bass through it... obviously the volume is completley useless for gigging, but the overall tone is there, besides a bit of fartyness... the tone controls are quite effective too.
so, this recent experience as well as my having just gotten my hands on a donor amp, have given me the idea of building a lightning-ish bass head. well, very "ish".
the donor amp I'm getting is an old peavey amp with 4x6L6's, and a horrendous solid-state preamp. obviously the preamp is gonna be going bye-bye.
I was thinking... I don't need that much gain for bass, so perhaps just the second preamp tube, and the phase inverter, and that's it?
what type of adjustments to the tone stack and preamp tube would be neccessary to get it to sound good and not fart too much? and what would have to be done to the phase inverter to make sure it kicks those 6l6's for all they're worth?
thanks guys
