A question was rasied as to the orientation of Sozo caps.

Aiken Said:

In order to take advantage of the shielding properties of the outside foil, the capacitor must be connected in the circuit in a particular orientation.

The proper way to connect the outside foil is to the low impedance side of the circuit

 In the case of coupling caps, this will normally be the plate of the previous stage.
 If it is a bypass cap to ground, connect the outside foil to the grounded side.
 If it is a bypass cap from a signal to B+, connect the outside foil to B+.

The outside foil will act as a shield against electric field coupling into the capacitor, so you want it to have the lowest impedance return path to ground.

I asked John at Sozo the following question:

"Some of the Sozo caps I use have a band at one end. Is there any benefit of orienting that in any particular direction such as towards the lower impedance or ground side of the circuit? What would the advantages be?"

and this was his reply:

"Exactly, it can help with the noise floor somewhat. That's why I provided the line for discriminating users. However [the noise from] the damn heaters seem to make it almost useless! ( :D ) "

So, it sounds like there may, possibly be a noise advantage. No harm in aligning them according to these rules.

I realize this is a pretty old post, but I'm trying to do the best possible job here. For me to go through the schematic and try to learn what each cap is used for would take me weeks, probably.
Is it possible someone "in the know" can just look at the turret board of the sIII V6 and identify what each cap is, or better yet, just tell me the proper orientation?
Whenever I've assembled circuit boards (90% of what I've done before this), you would always just orient them all the same way...
Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian.
This is what I came up with for the V6 with the information given.
viewtopic.php?t=1392

No one has ever confirmed what I did as correct. From what I hear the difference is slight if at any. Click on picture #2 to blow it up and you should get a decent view of the cap orientations.

Thanks JV.

I need to go over all the layouts and do this. We've started it with the TRIWATT but unless you know the shielded end, or can test a cap, or it's marked like the SOZOs are, it's not much use.

Brian, there is also another thread I started on this subject here:
viewtopic.php?t=1299

I'll be curious how I did
