I was welcoming my amp back to life after five month hibernation this afternoon when I felt a jolt of electricity. The amp made a "poof," sound and I stopped moving to consider what had just happened.

It wasn't terrible, but I'm afraid of it happening again. What could it have been?

Check that no connections of the power transformer has touched the chassis. This included the ones you may have tied off since they werent needed.
Did the fuse blow?

I'll have to check those wires. They DID have shrink tubing covering the ends. The fuse didn't blow.

My peavey delta blues does this every time I turn it off. I've always wondered what it was...

If you felt something, somehow, you got a voltage to you. Look for a trace of a spark-jump inside the amp. If you felt it, look to see if any shields of input cable touched a high voltage. Insulate the shields anyway.
