My girlfriend drug me out today. I really don't go out much nowadays. So anyway she drug me out in the rain and cold to an estate sale. Didn't want to go, but I have the pick-up truck, just in case.

Soooo, what do I find. A RCA turntable cabinet. All RCA, all the time. Twin RCA's 8" speakers; dual 6V6GT'S; 12AX7 and a 5Y3GT for good measure;  :D :D :D :D .
Get's better.
Also has 3/4" x 12" x 48" pine planks in the garage. Straight as ever. I really mean straight. Enough wood for any cab. They weigh nothing.

The grand total was
$7.50 for the amp and $5.00 for the wood = $12.50   :D :D :D .
Broke the bank on this one

My question (Leemo, where are you :D ), What is the best build for what I just got. I would also like to use the 2 x 8" config. Should be a fun amp.

Suggestions???????

Thanks in advance,
Jac

p.s. sorry here's pics.

Dude - A Deluxe! Add 1 AX7 and you've got it. Plus the cabs were made out of pine and the trannies are probably good for it to.

Hey Jac, +1 on the Deluxe, a fine amp
Image
Dont mess with the 2 X 8" though, get a nice 12", if you are on a budget try a Sammi ME300B50. I use one in this amp and it sounds phenominal.

Yep, go Tweed 'til ya bleed.

If it was stereo it will have two OT's and be single ended. In that case build a Champ or a Princeton. Heck, buy another power tranny and build both. :D
This might help.

Leemo, Good point. JAc, check if it was stereo, the you'll either need a different OT or a make champ because it's single ended.

Yes, you can get a Deluxe kit/build from Trinity.

yes, it's definately stereo. I guess I'll just have to build 2 amps. It's a bummer, but if I just twist my arm a little further.....

An OT for a deluxe is not a big investment if the PT is good. Look for 350-0-350 up to 380-0-380 VAC off the high voltage.

Umm, remember I have the radio PT that's @ 350-0-350. Didn't know what to do with it. I can use it now?

After looking at the layout's for the champ; Princeton and Deluxe, I'd prefer building the deluxe. I have a dual 6V6 and that's what I would like to use. Sounds like another fun project. Even better if I can use the radio PT.

Thanks, Jac

Wait;

here's the specs:

325-325v @ 70MA
5V @ 3A
6.3V @3.5A
a little lower, not too bad

BBQ has an OT for $20.00 for the Deluxe.

Nigel,
Thanks for the pic, she is sweet looking.
Curious though, Why not a d2x8"? I own a Premier 2x8", all original, and man does she sound sweet. Cat Scratch Fever ala mode.
Thanks,
Jac

p.s. although I am curious about trying the Sammi's :D

Stephen,
I'm definately building the deluxe, so I don't know if you want to move this thread to the Deluxe forum. Up to you.

Looking at the schem, how come there are two Volume?
Also, isn't that the death-cap? I'd rather a standby. Is that what you use? I would think so. Your amps have such a nice layout. Very flowing.
Thanks,
Jac

Right on! Another one. You'll love it.

There's 2 volumes because there's 2 (somewhat) independent channels. They're weird, but really cool. You can jump them as well.

Use Stephens Deluxe layout/build docs. They rock.

Jac, I messed about with 8" speakers that I had lying around from an old stereo and they just don't cut it, I guess if you had 8" speakers built specifically for musical instrument amplification purposes it would be a different matter. For a budget speaker I don't think you can go past the Sammi's, a lot of people are using them now and they sound sweet.

Tone Tubby makes an 8" I'd like to try but I'd want at least two. Otherwise, I'd go with 10"s as minimum. Course you could put up a wall of 8" - that might be fun.

We tried the Mod series of 12" speakers from Jensen and they are very decent for a low price.
