Newbs welcome here!

Slightly different power supply (same/close B+) & our custom OT; 1 less cap in the Tone contour; 5AR4 rectifier only; no Loops, no phase reverse switch; no master pull off switch and uses older EF86 biasing. It uses an eyelt board for build neatness.

Who needs 30W anyway? :D

Yes, it's amazing to find how many people think they need power. You dont actually. Adding a second speaker is like doubling the power because it's add 3db to the level.

In a hard surfaced area like a church, a little goes a long-long way.

How about an explanation concerning this impedence mismatch with the OT and speakers. Is this something common with the vox sound. Just curious since I now own Number "2" :D
Thanks, Jac

There's always been a lot of discussion on this. Here's a link to one of them..there's more. The mimatch give you a charateristic sound with a bit of an edge to it. You can simulate this if you want by mismaticing your impedance setting to your speakers.

Thanks for the reply.
Read all, still want to know what advantage hooking up the 8k instead of the 5k difference is. I like Brian May, I think this amp can pull off his sound. Or very close. Without the deacy :D
The clips posted were awesome. So I'm curious which direction to go.

It's funny, I wanted an 18watt, But I wanted this amp before I knew I wanted this amp. I'm so excited. :D :D :D :D :D
Thanks for any additional info.
Jac

The EL84 are designed for an 8K load. If they see less their operating point will shift and they will transfer less power to the OT / speaker.
The result will be a sound with a bit of an edge to it and slightly lower power output.

Fortunatley, the Trinity transformer has 5K & 8K so you can accomplish both with the same OT and experiment or add a switch.

Build it using the low impedance as designed but add the switch if you want the option.

Easy. You need a DPDT 5A / 10A switch. # sets of terminals:
Common (2 terminals in the center) goes to Tubes, on impedance tap to one set of terminals, the other tap he third set.

Hey everyone,

Thanks to coco, I got to take the TC-15 prototype for a drive. I have recorded a few clips, which I'll get to, but first the rig.

I plugged the head into a Traynor Bass cab with a single 8ohm 15 speaker (Don't know what it is, but its vintage 1970's). Not sure how many of you would do that so I won't go into detail on the sonic properties of the speaker and cab. Recordings were made with coco's attenuator to keep the family from complaining.

No effects used, natch! Guitars - Mid 80's Korean Squire Strat with Fender Lace Sensor pickups, Blue in the neck and middle positions and a Silver in the bridge position. I did the cleaner stuff with that on the Treble Bass channel, with some dirty stuff on the One track by switching the guitar cable(hence the pause).

Amp settings - In O'Clock (No markings on faceplate yet)

Code:
  Master     |                  Channel 1                            | Channel 2 (EF-86)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  Vol  |  Cut  |  Treble |  Bass  |   Vol   | Toggle switch | Contour |  Vol
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  12   |  12   |    5    |   2    |   9     |     Down     |    12    |     5

Please be aware that I will never be mistaken for James Hetfield or any pro guitar player, so there's plenty of flubs...just so you know before you click.

Both tracks with the strat:
http://www.trinityamps.com/clips/JPclips/TC-15-Clean-UnderBridge.mp3

http://www.trinityamps.com/clips/JPclips/TC-15-CleanNDirtyOne.mp3

The following tracks were done with my 95ish stock Gibson explorer, which is a 76 re-issue. Only thing to say about he Explorer is I use Ultra heavy 12 - 54 Strings because I usually have it tuned down to B for the KoRn, Disturbed, etc, type stuff.

This clip is Metallica and Slayer tuned down:

http://www.trinityamps.com/clips/JPclips/TC-15-SadButTrue-DeadSkinMask.mp3

I tuned the Explorer to E (ish) for the Purple and Ozzy stuff:

http://www.trinityamps.com/clips/JPclips/TC-15-CrazyTrain-Master.mp3
http://www.trinityamps.com/clips/JPclips/TC-15-DPBS-Explorer.mp3

In summary this amp has plenty of versatility and gain enough even for a metal head like me, I'm sure I can dial in quite a range of sounds with this bad boy! I hope to try some and record some more sounds, maybe even without the attenuator this coming weekend! Just got to get the wife and kids out of the house for a while.

Thanks to coco for the opportunity to try this amp!

John.

Honestly, thanks for the clips JP. This really shows the TC-15 in a very different light. Really appreicate them. Looking forward to some more.

All please note: JP recorded this after using an attenuator into a 15" speaker.

Ya know, sooner or later I see a road trip to Canada for a jam session.

What kind of attenuator was used for the TC. I still need to build one
Thanks, Jac

would be fun, maybe this summer. I'd really like to do this.
I actually hitchhiked across Canada in 1978, had a ball, The cleanest country I ever saw and very nice people. Ages me, doesn't it.

I've got the A-1045, right one? from rat-shack
