Hi gang. Just ordered a Lightning Head kit from Stephan. The wait is going to kill me though. Meanwhile, there's some great info here from you guys to keep me busy. My first kit build but I've done some modding on other amps. I've played guitar for 30 years and I've been an electronics tech for over 20 and I finally started to dive into what makes tube amps tick the last couple of years.

Looking forward to learing a lot more here. 8)

Sounds like me, only I've been playing 40 years.

I've been having the greatest time getting ready to build my Lightning.

I've maintained and modded my amps in the past, but I've been reading up on both theory and practical stuff.

The bad news is I haven't even started this first build, and now I'm getting ideas for other stuff.

Well I guess a full-time job, house, wife and band weren't really enough to keep me busy enough.

P.

Welcome to the forum. Yes, there's lots to learn about here, but I can see you're going to have no problem with your qualificatons!

Yep. That's how we all get hooked. I build stuff for no other reason than to find out how it sounds...

I caught the bug after picking up an old PINE Electronics Riviera Head (you Canadian guys should know that one) off of e-bay for nothing and making a few key mods, transformer changes, cap job, and balancing the filament supply to get rid of the terrible hum. It's a great sounding little deluxe now.

I've got a TopHat Emplexador also and was looking to build something along the Vox line. I've always loved the Matchless sound and finding out about the Lightning here made it a no-brainer decision to build it.
