Saw a thread on another site. and as it happens I just bought the Kevin 'Conner book about detuned cabs.
Anyone try this?
I have 2 empty closed-backed cabs (A V-4 and a Danelectro). Thinking of trying this out.

My 2x12 cabinet was originally a full range loudspeaker. Echolette LE4. Try looking that up and see what you get... NOT MUCH. German company who makes high end delays and such.

Anyway, there was this big metal horn assembly with 2 mids and a tweeter between the 2 guitar speakers. I took that thing out and now I have a big port down the middle of the cabinet.

It's a semi-open back cab. Someday I wll get around to covering up the openings on the back and see what the big fuss is all about. As it is though, it sounds OK considering the speakers aren't great. I'm not even giong to get into trying to put into words the tonal qualities of the cabinet. I'm just not that good.

Were you thinking of just using half of a 4x12?

I found this picture. It's kind of the same but not really.

No Picture?
Yes I was thinking of trying half a 4 x 12. I guess I'll just try it and see what happens.

Nah. I've never had the need for pictures of my rig. I guess they come in handy at times like this.

I have done it with a 1 X 12, sounds good but does not reduce the size of your cabinet.

Further to that; most of the ported or detuned cabinets (I can never remember the difference) I've seen tend to be bigger and deeper to accomodate A) the extra hole and B) the extra bass frequencies.

Check out Vintone

Nice looking pieces of furniture.

Not sure where Vintone is... But they say their designs use some of Kevin O'conor's threory on detuned cabs.

Yes, it stated that at the bottom.. Although I'm curious about that. In Kevin's book he even states that detuned cabs were around before him.
After looking at Vintone's cabs I'm going to try the the detuned method\d in my 4 x 12. What the hell, won't hurt the cab.
