My Lightning which has been operating great for a year or two, suddenly started making all kinds of noise when I play through it. Also, when I shut it off it makes a terrible squealing sort of sound. I checked all the tubes except the rectifier. Could it be a bad rectifier? I also replaced the power switch, but it didn't help. Anybody got any ideas?

thanks,
Moid

But it plays OK and starts-up OK? This is just at shutdown?

No, It starts up kind of quietly, then warms up. When playing it makes all kinds of racket, like loud static. It is quiet when on, but not playing anything.

Did you try sub tubes or test them? Could be a coupling cap, or a connection that has gone 'bad'.

I substituted known good tubes in. Connections looked good. I'll check coupling caps. Thanks
