All,

I have a pop I can't seem to get rid of in an OD pedal I built. I never noticed this before when using a Carling switch, but I recently changed to a Fulltone switch to allow me to add an LED to the circuit. It now pops horribly when switched even after the switch is well exercised.

I am using 1M pull down resistors on the input and output.

Any ideas?

Could the LED voltage be bleading in the switch? What happens when you remove the LED? If it goes away, try a resistor before the switch and LED connections.

Did you try .01 across the Carling/ Fulltone foot switch contacts to get rid of that pop? That might bleed any voltage build up.

Well, I poured over probably a hundred schematics of channel switching amps and effects pedal to figure out what to do about this. I found that most channel switching amps do nothing, so their relays must be quiet. I found that most effects pedals use some kind of electronic switching, which won't work in a tube pedal. I finally settled on the Real McTube schematic--not the newer one but the old one. I tried that switching scheme and it worked perfectly. I had to move parts of the circuit around and stuff, but it does work well. So, yet another posthumous thank you to Mr. Nachbauer.

I think in an amp that once you get past the first tube, you've got enough signal going. The problem with most pedals is that they are low output and everything is crammed together. I think layout would be even more critical than in a Jersey Arron TMB

Anyone who can do a good pedal with quiet switching is Ok by me.

I would imagine this would take care of it....maybe it's the tube that's coming into play...
