Stephen, correct me if I'm wrong, but were you experimenting with 6v6s for an S111? Seems I remember a comment on one of these threads some time ago. If yes, will it be offered as a kit?

Yes, a 6V6 sIII has surely crossed my mind more than twice. Our new design head chassis has extra holes punched so a 6V6 sIII is in the cards!

Yes, the new head is shipping with the kits. Note changes:
Two extra holes for tubes (more options incl. 36W, 6V6 with minor mods);
Can cap moved to front of chassis (cleaner wiring);
Moved board towards input end (quiet, more direct wiring); and
A few minor changes but No panel changes

Come to think of it, we could probably offer to punch out some holes for octals.

Coco, I am interested in the 6v6 amp. I have the sIII and was considering 6v6's, but I like the new chassis design. Couple of questions.
Can the 6v6's and el84's be used at the same time, or are they switchable? What are the options? Also, can I use the sIII board with the new chassis? I'm sure that a new ot and pt would be needed.

Well, we're going to play with it.

First off, 6V6 & EL84 will be either switched out/in, or just plug whichever set you want. The new chassis has extra holes for this as an option if desired.

Plan is to use the same Trannies. The new Trinity OT has a 5K tap so we'll experiment with that as an option.

Same board as well.

Anything new on a 6v6 loaded sIII? I'm waiting patiently.

It will be our next build. The new Trinity tranny is being tested with some 6V6. Looks like it will be a good combination.

No schematic until we'be built and tested the first one. BTW rjgtr says the new trannies are great with 6V6s.

Can I use my existing 18watt OT?

You can try it 8K impedance should work. The Trinity has a 5K tap that could be used as well.

Being a new guy here I'm interested in how you will switch between the two power sections. Also, don't leave us combo guys out. I'm thinking of adding a preamp tube hole, moving all the tubes down one hole, putting the big cap on the top and open the last two holes for the octal sockets.

To start, would just replace the power tubes when I wanted V6 power. But it will become a switch at some point in time I imagine if it sounds great. The new combo chassis we have designed, did move the cap to the top and added 1 extra hole. [we also added an impedance switch]. You could make it work in the new chassis by replacing the impedance switch hole with an octal hole. Of course, you can permanently switch from EL84s, but I wouldn't advise that.

I just punched out the octal holes in one of the new head chassis. This will be the protoype.

Ok, I hve a project on the bench and here is where I'm starting.

Reduce the PI tail resistor (R12) from 56K down to about 27k;
Change the 6V6 cathode resistor (R20) from 120 ohms to 250 ohms 5W;
Leave bypass cap as it is; and
Use individual screen resistors (R23 X 2) of 470 ohms, 2W each.

I can't help out too much until I've had a chance to test this. Let us know if you try it & how it works.

I'll report back on my progress.
