I have the outer box of my Lightning head cab complete. Tomorrow I'm going to cut the valance. I notice that there are what I would assume to be 3/4 radius curves. What's the best way to cut these curves? I doubt I could do it decently with a scroll or band saw.

thanks

Use a router to round over the edges. It's really pretty easy with the right bit.

If you are loking to do the valence inside cut-out curves, they are 3/4" radius. You can make them smaller if you want.

Try a hole saw or forstner bit at just the correct spot and then cut the straight lines with a saw. Like joining the dots.

In production, we use a template and upcut router bit.

I already did the roundovers. Everything went fine other than a bit of the plywood getting chewed up. I found that if I ran the router clockwise the same direction as the bit was rotating then the wood didn't get chewed up. Counterintuitive but it worked. You have to hold on to make sure the router doesn't take off.

We are thinking along the same lines. I was thinking I could use a band saw or scroll saw to cut the straight lines and then either use a drum sander or a drill press to get the radius right. I had no idea what forstner bit is until your suggestion. It looks to me like it will be perfect! time to head for Home Depot!

Forstner bit, then Band Saw is a good way. Then the sanding drum = perfect. Then round-over & viola One Panel. :D

I'm on it captain!

This cab is going to be done in Tolex. I'm making another from lovely sycamore tree we cut down a few years ago.
